A viral claim about a Hero Splendor Electric EV offering a 600-kilometre range, 110 km/h top speed, and a ₹33,999 price tag has sparked intense public interest across India. However, investigations reveal no official confirmation from Hero MotoCorp, raising concerns about misinformation and potential online scams.

While the Hero Splendor Electric EV remains one of the most anticipated future products in India’s electric mobility landscape, no such vehicle with a 600 km range or ₹33,999 price tag currently exists.
Experts urge the public to stay cautious, rely on verified information, and avoid financial transactions through unverified links. The excitement surrounding the Splendor’s possible electric evolution underscores India’s accelerating but still maturing transition to cleaner transportation.
Hero MotoCorp Has Not Announced Such an EV
Despite widespread online circulation, Hero MotoCorp—India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer—has made no official announcement about launching an electric version of its popular commuter motorcycle at the claimed specifications or price.
A company representative told reporters earlier this month that Hero is “working towards a mass-market electric motorcycle,” but specific details on price, range, or launch date remain undisclosed. As of October 2025, the company’s only production electric models are the Vida V1 Pro and Vida V1 Plus, priced above ₹1 lakh.
According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), no new Hero MotoCorp EV model under the “Splendor” name has been registered for homologation—a mandatory step before sale in India.

Examining the Viral Claim
The Numbers Don’t Add Up
The viral post, shared widely on Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube, alleges that Hero is offering the Splendor Electric EV with a 600 km range, 110 km/h top speed, and ₹33,999 ex-showroom price. Industry analysts say these figures are technologically and economically implausible.
“Achieving a 600-kilometre range would require a battery pack of at least 18–20 kWh,” said Dr Raghav Menon, an automotive engineer at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. “Such a pack alone would cost several lakhs of rupees, making a ₹33,999 motorcycle impossible under current market conditions.”
According to Bloomberg NEF’s 2025 battery-cost data, lithium-ion cells currently average $100–120 per kWh, making the battery itself worth nearly ₹2 lakh if such range claims were true.
Hero’s Actual EV Roadmap
Hero MotoCorp has been expanding its Vida electric sub-brand since 2022. The company has also invested in the Bangalore-based Ather Energy and partnered with Gogoro for battery-swapping infrastructure.
In a 2024 investor presentation, Hero MotoCorp CEO Niranjan Gupta said the company’s focus was on “developing practical electric solutions for the mass market” and on “building robust charging and battery-swapping networks.” No mention was made of a “Splendor Electric” product line.
Experts believe a true Splendor Electric EV—if developed—would target the 80–120 km range segment, not 600 km. This would align with commuter needs and cost expectations below ₹1 lakh.
Misinformation and Online Scams
How False Offers Spread
The ₹33,999 “bumper offer” appears to have originated from unofficial websites imitating Hero MotoCorp’s branding. Several pages display fraudulent booking links requesting small down-payments to “reserve” the vehicle.
Cybersecurity analysts warn that such tactics have become increasingly common in India’s booming EV market. “Scammers exploit brand trust to lure consumers into sharing financial data,” said Ankita Seth, a cybercrime specialist at the National Cyber Safety and Security Standards (NCSSS).
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) issued a fact-check advisory earlier this year urging citizens to verify claims about government subsidies and “too-good-to-be-true” EV discounts through official manufacturer channels.
Public Excitement and the EV Transition
The enthusiasm surrounding the Splendor Electric EV reflects India’s growing appetite for affordable electric mobility. According to NITI Aayog, two-wheelers account for nearly 70 percent of the country’s road traffic and offer the quickest path to electrification.
Government incentives under the FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) scheme have reduced the effective cost of several entry-level e-scooters. Yet analysts emphasise that EV motorcycles remain more expensive to produce than petrol models due to high battery costs and limited economies of scale.

Verify EV Launches and Offers
Experts recommend checking only official company websites and verified social-media handles before making online payments or sharing personal information. Genuine Hero MotoCorp announcements appear at heromotocorp.com and its verified “Hero MotoCorp” profiles across major platforms.
Consumers can also use the VAHAN Portal, maintained by India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, to confirm whether a new model has been approved for sale.

The Broader Context
India’s EV ecosystem is rapidly expanding, driven by state incentives, corporate investment, and consumer demand for lower operating costs. However, experts caution that misinformation could slow adoption by undermining public trust.
“Transparency and consumer education are critical to sustaining EV growth,” said Ritu Kapoor, an analyst at the Centre for Energy Finance, part of the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). “Manufacturers and regulators must jointly ensure that accurate information reaches every potential buyer.”
